This ancient
Chinese art of Tai Chi (Grand Ultimate Fist) helps to promote
and cultivate the flow of chi (vital energy). This in turn can
help in the improvement of ones health and well being.
Unlike the external styles e.g. Lau Gar, where the movements are
executed and performed with more speed and power. Tai Chi is performed
much slower and therefore enables the student to concentrate on
the internal energy of our training and development. Not only
can one enhance and develop their external boxing skills but in
turn give a more balanced training program as a whole.
This slow form of exercise has become more and more popular in
the west with the young and the old getting interested in the
art for the main part in improving ones health (mind, body and
spirit). This balanced approach of training works on the principle
of yin-yang. These are the two opposing energies in the universe.
Yin- female, negative, soft ,dark and yang- male, positive, hardness
and light, and it is with this principle in mind that the student
endeavours to gain equilibrium.
At the Lau academy we offer students the opportunity to learn
Tai Chi Chuan within the mainstream Kung-fu classes or they can
enrol in the Tai Chi Chuan only classes.
